Questions
1. What did the title “Tides of Honour” mean to
you?
2. Danny tries to help his brothers understand
killing in war (pg 152-3). He contrasts
killing a man with killing a rabbit, something that they could relate to. How could Danny have explained war to Audrey
and his parents to help them understand his experiences?
3. At Jeddore, Audrey is alive and happy and
feels loved and accepted and immerses herself into her art, “as if she saw
beyond the lines and colours.” (pg 199)
In the church in Halifax, she is conflicted. She thinks, “If God was
art, she accepted that he was in her soul, but she didn’t plan to come back and
visit him anytime soon. The ups and downs
of being in his house were too hard on her heart.” (pg 248) Do you think she
would describe herself as spiritual or religious? And why?
4. Neither Danny nor Audrey seemed to really
like/trust Pierre, so why did each of them believe him when Pierre told them
that their spouses were dead?
5. What was the turning
point for Danny that got him beyond his self-hatred?
6. Quick round: What did you think of the book?
Is there anything you want to discuss that we missed?
